CLINCH VALLEY TIMES St. Paul, *Ca. Thursday, December 1, 2016 Page 5 Morning Mile program Church and related activities STUDENTS- first row, leftto right: Sophia Cathey, pre-K; Nick Campbell, kindergarten; Klhoe Puckett, 1st grade; Jaydnelynn Campbell, 2nd grade; Aaron Deramus. 3rd grade; Katelyn Perry (not pictured) 4th grade. Second row - left to right: Benjamin Sutherland, 5th grade; Anthony Deramus, 6th grade; Delaney Hale, 7th grade; Christoper Carlos, 8th grade. The students of Saint Paul Elementary have been participating in a national Morning Mile program to encourage healthy habits. Each morning before school begins, students walk or run to meet the daily distance goal of one mile. "Although it's okay if they don't meet that goal, many are exceeding it! The student body has thoroughly enjoyed this activity since it began in August. When we see the students come to school early with such enthusias- tic attitudes about exercise, it is overwhelmingly encouraging. The students receive weekly awards for their accomplishments. Along with these weekly awards, the student in each grade level with the greatest number of miles completed at the end of the first 9- week period was also rec- ognized. Pictured are the students from each grade level with the greatest mileage recorded. As of October 7, 2016, these students have com- pleted a combined total of 322 miles, and SPES has completed more than 2,412 miles, and counting! A special thanks to the parents of these students for bringing your child to school early to participate in an amazing program aimed to change the lifestyles of our youth today. Also, great thanks to all the volunteers and teaching staff who make this program possible. Items of interest...
