CLINCH VALLEY TIMES St. Paul, Va. Thursday, November 13, 2014 Page 7 ) unveils S The Industrial Development Authority of Russell County Virginia recently unveiled a new logo, slogan and compre- hensive website to inform companies around the globe that its county is a prime spot for locating business and industry. The new website - http://ru ssellcountyida.org - details Russell County's decade-long transforma- tion from being largely driven by coal and agricul- ture (tobacco) to becoming an ideal location for high- tech workers desiring a less-harried lifestyle and a multitude of recreational opportunities. "We acquired funding earlier this year to revamp our marketing tools, and we have worked hard to deliver a clear, informative and accurate picture of Russell County for busi- nesses," says Harry Rutherford, chairman of the IDA's board of direc- tors. "Our area is a great location for business onshoring, and we have historically delivered strong incentives for com- panies. We want to contin- ue that mindset." The organization's new slogan, "Partnering for Progress, Connected for Success," reflects the coun- ty's efforts since 2003 to bring world-class broad- band connectivity to the area (4-tier data center capabilities) and its ability to negotiate and build part- nerships for economic growth. Northrop Grumman and CGI, two of the largest, high-tech com- panies in the world, have since located facilities in the county. The website emphasizes Russell County's protected, inland position in the Southeast, its lower cost of living- 12.4 percent lower than the U.S. average- slower pace, and immedi- ate proximity to some of the most pristine, undis- turbed natural environ- ments in the nation. The website's develop- ers - Hillhouse Graphic Design LLC based in I Kingspprt, Tennessee - building programs are worked[ closely with the strongly STEM-driven, due IDA board of directors over . to having IT companies several haonths to improve and high-tech industry the site's) maneuverability and to clarify messaging. "We knew the county had undergone an impres- sive transformation to become more knowledge- based, and we wanted to highlight that journey," said Justin Dickenson, the project's manager at Hillhouse Graphic Design. "Visitors to the site will find it comprehensive, extremely user-friendly and with a clear message that Russell County is open for bugmess." The website provides general information as well as detail sheets about all sites and buildings current- ly available for occupancy, renovation or development in Russell County. Local leaders are seeking to attract companies involved with electronic information technology, energy, educa- tion and emerging tech- nologies. The area's public schools and workforce- already located in three of the county's existing indus- trial and technology parks. The site also provides information about incen- tives and real-life case studies - one of which relates how and why CGI opened its first U.S. onshore IT delivery center in Russell County in 2006 with 300 employees. Today, the center is one of CGI's largest U.S. offices with more than 400 work- ers. Notably, the Clinch Valley, which spans the length of Russell County, has been designated as "one of the last great places" by The Nature Conservancy, a leading conservation organization that protects ecologically important lands and waters. The location is said to con- tain one of the largest col- lections of rare and endan- gered fresh water species in the world - an ecosystem that has led tO three natural area preserves being desig- nated in the county: The 'Pinnacle, The Channels and Cleveland Barrens. Russell County also lies between the Jefferson National Forest (Virginia) and the Cherokee National Forest (Tennessee), provid- ing close proximity to 250,000 acres of unspoiled woodlands for outdoor recreation - including numerous access points to the famed Appalachian Trail.
