CLINCH VALLEY TIMES St. Paul, Va. Thursday, September 22, 2016 Page 3 Copper Creek Elementary School news Church and related activities calendar of upcoming events by Addrienne Robinson Students at Copper Creek Elementary School have been busy the first few weeks of school! Students are learning new procedures and routines and enjoying being in school! On September 6, 2016 the students from CCES enjoyed a day at the Russell County Fair. They viewed exhibits, Old McDonald's Farm and enjoyed a magic show. Several vendors and volun- teers from across the coun- ty including the Russell County Sheriff's Department and local fire departments were there to speak to students and let them see equipment used. On September 12, stu- dents and faculty wel- comed approximately 119 grandparents and family members to lunch with our students. There were 14 grandparents who read to our classes. Students enjoyed this very special treat and grandparents were treated with refresh- ments as well. Castlewood Elementary implements the Morning Mile What is the Morning jVlile? !t is a before school walking/running program that gives kids the chance to start each day in an active way, while enjoying music, friends, and fun. It is supported by a wonder- ful system of awards that keeps students highly motivated and frequently congratulated for their efforts. Morning Milers across the country have run over 2,000,000 miles, and are having greater success in behavior, academics, and sports because of it. Castlewo0d Elementary is thrilled to promote fitness and all the great benefits that go with it. Morning Milers will meet at the track from 7:15-8:00 Monday-Friday. Parents are welcome and encour- aged to participate with their children or volunteer in the program. Our Participants walked 251.5 miles the first week.
