Area Obituaries CAROL JEAN SARGENT "she openeth her mouth with Wisdom, and in her is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and called her blessed....Favor is deceiOeul, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised". (Proverbs 26- 30) CASTLEWOOD, VIR- GINIA Carol Jean Sargent, 79, with her fami- ly surrounding her, left this old sinful world on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from Nova Health and Rehabilitation Center, Weber City, Virginia and entered her Heavenly Home where she is suffer- ing no more. She was born and raised in the Long Hollow section of Nickelsville; daughter of the late Lonnie and Hazel Hall Salyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ervin Sargent; her precious little girl, Dianna Gail; her sis- ter, Nancy Sabatino; her "baby" brother, David Salyer; her mother-in-law, Gracey Sargent; and sister- in-law, Mary Jo Sluss. She graduated from Nickelsville High School, class of 1951 and was a member of Nickelsville women's basketball team. Jean began her working career  in !958 , with Rockwell Manufacturing  in St. Paul. She was a pro- fessional seamstress and had a gift for the art of sewing. She worked in many area factories ending her career in 1999 retiring from Spring Ford Knitting in Chilhowie. She was a member of the House of Prayer Church in Castlewood. John 1-4 "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth" She left behind three children to mourn for her, son, Albert E. Sargent, Jr. of Castlewood; two daugh- ters, Debbie Gibson and husband, Rudy of Gate City, and Angle Gibson and husband, Jackie of Castlewood; the joys of her life, grandsons, Rudy Allan Gibson and wife, Summer of Gate City, and Josh Gibson and wife, Brooke of Church Hill, Tennessee and granddaughters, Danielle Sargent and friend, Josh Tester of Gainesville, Florida and Kristen Gibson of Castlewood; and the four bright spots in her day, her great grandchildren, Austin and Adyson Gibson of Gate City, and Ashtyn and Zachary Gibson of Church Hill, Tennessee; sister, Margaret Cooper and hus- band, Harold of Kingsport, Tennessee; brother, Glen Salyer of Rock Hill, South Carolina; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her best friend, Nancy Collins. Funeral Services for Carol Jean Sargent will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, with Rev. Jessie Jones, Rev. Howard Edwards, and Rev. Gary Crum officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Pallbearers will be Pete Sabatino, Allen Salyer, Donnie Salyer, Austin Gibson, Zac Gibson, Junior Collins, Sean Collins, and Justin Collins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hershel Sluss and elder men of the House of Prayer Chureh. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, or at the homes of her daughters, Debbie at 486 Frisco Yard Road, Gate City, Virginia or Angie at 2638 Flats Circle, Castlewood. The family wants to give thanks to Nancy Collins, the staff at Wellmont Wexford House, especially ' Brooke Gibson and Lydia Sonneberger, and the staff of Nova Health and Rehabilitation Center for all their tender love and care of "Momma" during her illness. Tommy was born December 17, 1941 in Dunbar, Virginia a son of the late Patrick and Myrtle Hamilton. He was a U.S. Army veteran, He was a retired employee of the Wise County Public Schools. In addition tO his par- ents he was preceded in death by his wife: Dixie Cook,Hamilton; sister: Goldie Buckles; brother: Donald Hamilton; step- great-grandson: Christian Shane Phillips.
