Thursday, August 11, 2016 b 2016 Castlewood Blue Devil Football Team The key for , Castlewood: , working - together sp'ell don't know if it will success or not, but I think we're on the same page a lot better this year ttfan in the last three y6ars," said Blue Devils l~dad coach Darrell Taylor. ".Offensively I think they've got the concept of what we're trying to get c~bne, the kids are buying in a dot better. They under- gtand the concepts better a~d we're moving more rapidly in practice than what we've done in previ- ous years." "We've got ~ome competition at our s]~('ll positions and I think We're a faster football team then we've been in the past," said Taylor. ~i, Senior quarterback Josh Wood leads the cast of those skill position players. "It's just like any other football team at any level," Said Taylor, "you're going 4o go as far as your quarter- back will take you in ~oday's offense, ltte's ~vorked hard this summer, he went to football camp |h~s summer, and he's been |o several 7 on 7's. Josh has long way to go with foot- ~vork and mechanics but as far as reading his progres- sions and seeing his check downs I've been pleased with what I've seen so far." Joining Wood in the CHS backfield will be seniors Devin Phillips, Mason Bellamy (transfer from Eastside) and junior Jack Ward. Phillips and Ward played key roles for the Castlewood offense last year and Bellamy will be another plus for the Blue Devils. Senior Kyle Kennedy and juniors Matt Amburgey and Jacob Woodruff will start at the receiver spots for Castlewood. Clearing the way for Wood and compa- ny will be offensive line- men Jonah Cornett (jr.), Gunner Jessee (soph.),Cody Amburgey (sr.). Brian Buetler (jr.), and Hunter Wright (jr.). "We have a few starters coming back on defense, but in today's game, With all the formations, it's a matter of trying to be smart and getting lined up the right way. As far as that goes, the front line is where our inexperience is going to be. We have competition at our linebacker positions and a little at the d-back position but I feel good the guys we'll put there. But the line backing corps should be the meat of our defense, I feel like we have 6 or 7 that can play the position. Cody Amburgey Forest landowners retreat the woods ! Josh Wood, Jacob Woodruff, Matt Amburgey, and Mason Bellamy are set to start at the defensive back positions. Seniors David Minton, Hunter Wright, juniors Cameron Blevins, Jonah Cornett, and sophomore Gunner Jessee will start the season on the Blue Devil's defen- sive line. "I feel like last year we left some games out there we could have won," said Taylor, "and a lot of it was our own fault. Some bad breaks and bad decisions and things of that nature. A lot of our focus this year is on what we do and not so much on what other people do. Lets focus on that and see how far it takes us," said Taylor. "One thing we've tried to work on in the off season was chem- istry and character. We've talked about it, coach John Adams mentions it a lot. If you don't have good Character, chemistry, and commitment you don't put yourself in a position to be able to win. We talked about it before the season began, having good char- acter, being good team- mates. Pulling for each other can take you a long way."
