WISE, VA- Roy Elmer Steffey, Sr., 81, went home to be with his Lord" and Savior Tuesday July 4, 2017 from his son David's home in Wise VA. He was surrounded by his loving family. Roy had lived the majority of his life in Castlewood, VA Roy was Christian of the Pentecostal .faith and attended the House of the Lord Church. He was never in a war, but he fought many battles. Roy was a proud and strong man that never backed down from anyone or any- thing. He along with his wife of 45 years, Freda raised 12 children. He was a dad that touched many l~ves. He loved camping, fishing and picnicking at Copper Creek. Roy worked hard all his life from a Young teen till his late 70's. Roy worked in the tire business for nearly 40 years and other jobs at one time to provide for his needs of his family, but they never did without food or love. He raised a big garden each year, giv- ing most of it away to fam- ily and friends. "Tough as a Pine knot" his physical strength, endurance and hard work was what he was known for. He instilled a lot of his strength in his children, raising them in the church and taught them to be strong in the Lord and trust in God and have strong character. Roy was preceded in death by his parents George and Anne (Meade) Steffey; his wife Freda Blanch (Hurd) Steffey; a daughter Rebecca Gail Adams; sisters Goldie White, Beulah Hurd, Helen Hurd and Gladys Hurd; and brothers Bill Steffey, Jack Steffey, Clarence Steffey and Pete Steffey. Survivors include his daughters, Sheila Adams and husband Rodney- Whitesburg, KY, Chris Guinnip ..... and .husband Rodger, Evening ~ .Shade AR, Freda. Smith and hus- band Sammy-Booneville, NC, Sarah Mullins and husband Shawn-Wise, Sonja Lomax and husband Sean-Big Stone Gap, and Susan Steffey -Greenville, TN; his sons, Roy Steffey, Jr. and wife Tamera-Wise, Ben Steffey and wife Pam- Pound, David Steffey and wife Kathy-Wise, James Steffey and companion Cherie Blanton- Castlewood, and Michael Steffey and companion Velvet Carty-Wise; 30 grandchildren; 33 great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory. The family would like to give a special thanks to his Hospice caregivers, Mary, Pam, Christie, Tabatha and Selena for tak- ing such good care of our dad. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Thursday July 6, 2017 at :the House of the Lord- Little Jerusalem Church at 2680 Red Oak Ridge Road, Castlewood, VA 24224 with Reverend Teddy Phillips, Reverend Curtis Dalton and Reverend Donnie Pickett officiating. :The family, will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of services. Graveside committal services will be conducted at. 11:00 am Friday July 7, :2017 at Temple Hill :Memorial Park- Castlewood, where Robby Hartsock, Chad Steffey, D J Steffey, Justin Floroff, Michael Steffey, Dennis Roberts, Jr., Jacob Steffey and Sammy Smith will serve as pallbearers. He was born in Wythe County, Virginia; son of the late Joseph and Betty Armbrister Huff. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Barry Huff, Sr., Dennis Huff, and Joey Huff. He was an electri- cian for Crowder Industrial Construction. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Elam Huff; two daughters, Lisa Landry and husband, Denny of Galax, and Mary Beth Huff and companion, Ivor Adkisson of Wythe County; two sons, Luke Huff of Hillsville, and Russell Huff of Chesterfield County; two sisters, Denise Ryeand husband, John and Diane Huff both of Willis; one brother, Michael Huff, Sr. of Wythe County; one step son, Adam Gross and wife, Bethany of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Tyler Largen and Jaikob Patrick; one step grandson, Hayden Gross; several nieces and nephews. JACKIE "JACK" SMITH Jackie "Jack" Smith, 70, Coeburn, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Roy & Bonnie Smith and was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie Carico and a grandson, Wesley Smith. Jack was a retired .coal miner having worked thirty years for Clinchfield Coal Company. He was a mem- ber of the UMWA and attended the St. Paul First Baptist 'Church. He was an avid Virginia Tech and Dale Earnhardt fan. He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Betty; his sons, Jeffrey (Kathy) Smith of Cross Lanes, West Virginia and Todd Smith of Bristol; one sister, Janice (Jack) Nixon of Richmond; one grand- son, Zachary Ryan Smith; one granddaughter, Ashley Marie Smith. He also sur- vived by his extended fam- ily of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
