CLINCH VALLEY TIMES St. Paul, Va. Thursday, June 15, 2017 Page 7 Camp and swim, lessons at Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center provides youth ,with i active and healthy summer options The pool is filled, the grass is cut, and the sun is out. Summer is here and Southwest Virginia 4-H Center is offering two new, exciting programs for area youth: Summer Day Camp and Swim Lessons. Our day camp, through a blend of educational and recreation- al activities, will provide kids the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new friends, and stay active. Swim lessons will provide kids an essential life skill and the chance to have fun along the way. According to research from the ACA (American Camp Association), it has been shown that the camp experience can benefit children by: increasing confidence and self-esteem building social skills and making friends learning independence and leadership qualities fostering a willingness to try and adventurous spirit As an ACA accredited camp, we look forward to providing youth in our region a path to these key development tools. "We have been working to build our programming and are excited to bring more opportunities to youth in our community," says Robyn Raines, SWVA 4-H Center Director, "We're best known for hosting residential camp for our thirteen county 4-H service area. It is important to build on that strength--both with our facilities and staff-- to expand how we serve the area." Summer Day camp runs from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. June 19-23, 2017 and is avail- able to youth ages 5-13. Campers will enjoy a variety of traditional camp activities such as swimming, camp classes (such as low ropes and animal care), crafts, campfires, singing,'dancing, and more. Lunch and an afternoon snack are provided. SWVA 4-H Center has four sessions of swim lessons geared for beginners: June 5- 15; June 19-29; and July 10-20 July 24-August 3, 2017. Each class is from 5:15 until 6:00 p.m. Students should already be comfortable getting in and out of the pool and'i, putting their head under water. Lessons are designed so swimmers can take consecutivc: ', sessions to continue to build skills.
