Bryce Grimes grand slam in the 4th inning Tuesday broke the game open for George Wythe in their 8-5 win over 'the Devils at the Bland Tournament. Dillon Hartley and Chad Amburgey both walked and scored in the Castlewood first inning. Grant Anders ,3-3 on the day, drove home Watson from second with two out in the Maroons 2nd inning. George Wythe tied the score getting a bases loaded walk to Cade Holiday in the third, then went ahead when John Deters' sacrifice plated Jacob Collins. Anders opened the Maroons fourth with a base hit and was joined on the bases by Childers and Collins, who were hit by a pitch and walked. Grimes cleared the bases with the slam giving George Wythe an 8-2 lead. The Blue Devils made a two Out surge in their half of the 5th. Ian McCoy reached on an error, Amburgey singled, and Walker Long walked. Adam Puckett completed the 3 run Castlewood 5th driving a ball to right field, reaching on an error, driv- ing in two runs. Grimes came in to pitch for the Maroons eaming the save. Scores CHS R H E 522 GWHS R n E 871 GWHS P-D. Moore (W) CHS P- Kennedy (L) Montcalm Castlewood scored 10 runs ,in the bottom of the second with 8 of the 9 Blue Devils reaching base at least once in a 19-9 five inning win over Montcalm at Bland High School Thursday. Darrell Hilenaan notched the win for Castlewood alloveing 3 hits in three innings of work. Tyler Poe tallied 3 hits and scored 3 runs for Montcalm. Tied at 3-3 Castlewood went to the bottom of ,the second with Collin Moore leading off the inning. Moore reached base then stole second coming in to score on l Iileman's single. Nine more runs would cross in the inning with hits by Cody Amburgey and Moore. The Blue Devils benefited from 6 walks and Generals errors contribut- .I mg to the 10 run inning. Hileman allowed just 1 run on two hits in his final two ".mings for the win. Amburgey led off the Castlewood half of the 4th with a base hit. Following a pair of hit batters Kennedy's sacrifice got Amburgey home, then Moore's double sent home Walker Long and Puckett home with the Devil's final two runs. Castlewood collected 7 hits in the game led by Moore who had a pair of doubles and scored 3 runs. Hileman and Dillon Hartley also scored 3 times each. Burton. Matt Green tossed a three hitter giving up two runs for his third win of the season. Ryan Milgrim tagged two hits for Eastside. Matt Branham took the loss for the Raiders. Border Lindsay Dean Struck out sevefi' Lady Raiders spreading, 4 hits over 7 innings gettir~g the 6-2 win for district leading Eastside. Dean and Madison Powers had 3 hits each and the pair totaled 4 runs. Kelsey Culbertson had 2 hits and an RBI for the Lady Raiders and Asya Goode banged a solo homerun. Culbertson's first inning triple drove home Meygan Thacker with the first run of the" game giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Eastside jumped in front in the bot- tom of the first getting hits by Powers, Dean, Kaylee Jones, and Katie Mullins. Jones and Mullins each chalked up an rbi. The Lady Spartans chalked up a trio of hits in the bottom of the second adding another run. Goode led off the Lady Raiders 3rd inning with a solo bomb dropping the Spartans lead to 3-2. Dean allowed just 2 hits oyer the final three innings earning the win for the Scores: EHS Burton Spartans. RHE 6120 RHE 240 (W) Dean (L) Cole Lady Spartans Eastside smacked 14 hits in a 20-0 rout of Thomas Walker. Lindsay Dean hit for the cycle, going 4-5 at the plate, with 5 rbi, while fanning 8 Lady Pioneers. Kaylee Jones and Madison Powers each tal- lied 3 hits in the contest. Powers accounted for 4 rbi and Jones an rbi scoring 2 runs. Erin Stanley slapped an inside the park home run and scored 4 times. Seven Lady Spartans scored at least 2 runs. Eastside 8 Banner has 3-2 week at E&H North Erin Stanley and Madison Powers each went 2-3 and Lindsay Dean tossed a 1 hit shut out in the Eastman Softball Classic at Kingsport taking the 8-0 win. Eight of ten Eastside hitters tallied 1 hit. Kaylee Jones went 2-3 with a triple and two rbi. The Lady Spartans scored lrun in the first, 5 runs in the second, and lrun each in the third and fourth innings winning by slaughter rule. Taylor Banner opened the week taking a complete game loss to Bluefield. She went 5 1/3 innings earning a 4-2 victory over Roanoke College scattering 5 hits and walking 2. Coming on in relief in game two of the twin bill at Roanoke Banner took the loss 6- 5,when an unearned run scored in the 8th inning. Banner notched a 9 inning complete game win 6-4 over EMU giving up 4 runs on 6 hits allowed. Taylor completed the week with a 4-0 shut out of Bridgewater College in game one of a doubleheader sweep.
