Clay, 89, Abingdon, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at ' Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tennessee. He was a former resident of Castlewood. He was born in Castlewood; son of the late Joseph and Bessie Hayden Clay. He was pre- ceded in death by two brothers, Hopp Clay and Bill Clay; six sisters, Evelyn Home, Margaret Duncan, Estelle Chabo, Clarice Ware, Daisy Cavendish and Josephine Tudor; and one son, James Robert "Tink" Clay. He was a veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart in the U.S. Navy serving in World Ward II. He was a member of Fort Gibson, United Methodist Church, past Lay Leader and taught Sunday school and served in various other commit- tees. He was a member and past president of Castlewood Lions Club for over 45 years. Jack was an Eagle Scout, Assistant Scout Master Troop 260. In his love of travel, he visit- ed every state except Hawaii. He enjoyed his trip to Australia, Canada and Mexico. He enjoyed paint- ing and doing stained glass projects, and playing bingo in FAM Club at the Abingdon Center where he was a member. Jack was a coal miner for 46 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Connie Clay; one son, Danny Clay and wife, Karen, of Castlewood; three grandsons, James R. Clay and wife, Vanessa, of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, D. Kampton and wife, Melissa, of Abingdon, and Hayden Paschall Clay of Jessup, Maryland; four grand- daughters, Erika Clay of Los Angeles, California, Jessica Clay of Bristol, Tennessee, Elizabeth Osborne and husband, Jason, of Meadowview, and Kaitlin Fields and hus- band, Ben, of Castlewood; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchil- dreni and several loving nieces, nephews, and fami- ly. Funeral services for Jack C. Clay were conduct- ed at 2 p.m. Saturday, April MARKET CORNER NEWS r- calendar of upcoming events 2, 2016, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, with the ReV. Harry Layell officiating. Entombment followed in Chapel of Love Mausoleum, Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Military Rites were conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers were Dustin Mabe, Tom Cook, Ben Fields, Ray DeLaCruz, Tom Talbert, Joe Tomlinson, John Huff, Bob Gibson, Dave Cozzolino and Wayne Johnson. The family received friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood.
