Robbie White and the church choir were instru- mental in the memorial service/celebration of his life and accomplishments. We would like to extend a special thanks to Pastor Rick Herald from Trinity Assembly of Cedar Bluff for his support durifig our trying time. We would also like to recognize and thank Ray Smith, dispatcher from E-Dillon and Rick Brooks, longtime friend of the family, for their moving tributes to Junior. We would like to express our most sincere thanks to everyone who shared in our grief, whether it be by a hug, a handshake, words of kindness, a phone call, or most importantly, pray- ers. May God Bless and Be with each and every one of you. The family of Hermon Eldon Brooks, Jr. THE ROCK THAT 1 LEANED ON He had those gorgeous piercing blue eyes that reminded me of diamonds. From the first memory that I have of him he had gray hair. Not so much due to age in his case, but more likely attributed to gene- tics. His hair was always perfect, never a strand out of place. Neatness was a quality that you couldn't help but notice about him; he took great pride in his looks. He seemed to me to be as tall as a tree at 6 foot 1 inch. He was solid as a rock to go along with his height. Years of weight lifting had seen to that. He was 250 pounds of pure muscle or so it always appeared to me. He was one of those people any normal person would choose to stay on the good side of. I was extremely glad he was my cousin. He looked big and mean, but that's all it was, a show. Underneath all that braun was a truly good man with an awesomely huge heart. He sometimes liked to throw his weight around, but only in the weight room. He was meek as a kitten otherwise. Quiet and proud, that is how I would describe Junior. He was never the kind to boast or even to join in a conversation unless he was specifically invited. He never had a lot to say, but when he spoke it was important. He was a person I drew strength from by just being in the same room with him. He made anyone who was around him feel like they were important. Licensed in 2008 as a preacher he had started his own ministry. Breaking Point Ministries was the product of a mistake he had made in his life. The exact nature of what happened is not as important as the fact that it helped him to get out of a rut that his life had fallen into and to continue on the path God had set him on years ago. He finally submitted to the calling that had been there all the time, but had been pushed aside. He was a very patient man. He taught a Bible study class once that tions and ask if there were any more. He did event- ually change tactics a little bit though and instead of asking if there were any questions he would say "OK, Amanda, what's the first one?" He always had that little grin on his face when he asked, to let me know that he was OK with it, he just knew me that well. I would fire away and he would answer them as best he could. If there was question that he did not know the answer to right away, which were few and far between, he would say, "I'11 see what I can come up with." By the next class b.g would have researched it and have the answer that I had asked for. He always made sure that I under- stood that he did not have all of the answers. Some- times he had to remind people that he had flaws, too. He never failed to do so, though. He was always a lot more critical of himself than anybody else was of him. He never measured up to this own expectations. Herman Eldon Brooks, Jr., was the rock that I believed would weather all storms. He was my answer man, my strength, and the one person that I thought would be here to help me through all the tough times of my life, with a word or maybe just a pat on the back with those big strong hands. His strength was available for everyone but himself. I always felt like no one could ever hurt Junior, he was too big and strong, almost invincible. 1 thought God was the only one that could take Junior away from this earth. I was wrong. On the morning of February 24, 2009 Junior Brooks ended his own life. For as much as he pro- tested and reminded everyone that he was not perfect the one person that he forgot to convince of that was himself. Never wonder- never doubt- our family loved him uncon- ditionally for who and what he was. 3-12-1tpd Notice COPPER RIDGI/HIGH POINT WATER LINE EXTENSION A Community Meeting will be held on March 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Copper Creek Fire Hall. If you are interested in hav- ing public water service in your area or have questions about the potential project, please try to attend this meeting. This meeting is a follow up to the meeting held on February 17, 2009. Please pass the word on to your neighbors. It is very important that we deter- mine if the interest of the citizens in the community is adequate to support a project to extend public water service to their homes. The amount of in- terest expressed by the citizens of the area will likely determine how qui- ckly this project is pursued by the Castlewood Water & Sewage Authority.
