Kaylee Jones chipped in 13 Springs points along with 8 rebounds. Vivian Roller Castlewood earned a paced the Lady Eagles with ~pot in the Cumberland 22 points and Lexie Conference semifinal with Rhoton added 15 points a 62-39 win over the Lady Titans Feb 16th at UVa Wise. Sydney Strange paced the Lady Devils with 14 points, Cassidy Fleming notched 13, and Sam ,Couch added 12 points. Abby Castle led the Lady ,T, itans with 13 points and Lenora Dingus chipped in 12 points. Threes by Castle and 2VIackenzie Warner staked the Lady Titans to an early (5-1 lead in the first period. Sam Couch tied the score at 6 with a jumper. Castle's second triple gave Twin Springs an 11-6 margin. The Lady Devils closed the period on a 10-2 run to take the lead 16-13 ending the "first quarter. The Lady -Titans tied the game at 16 scoring the first 3 points of the second frame. Castlewood would outscore Twin Springs 11-3 ~over the next 3:54 of the half, getting 5 points from Sam Couch and 4 from ~Strange, taking a 27-19 lead. and 5 assists. Back to back baskets by Grace Rhoton and Hannah Goins gave the Lady Eagles a slim 15-10 lead late in the first frame Wednesday, Jones nabbed a three point play in the final minute to make the score 15-13 with Rye Cove. The lead changed hands 4 tunes in the second period with the Lady Eagles forging a 7-0 run to lead 26-21 with a little over two minutes left in the half. A pair of layups by Sykes and Wyrick cut the half- time score down to 26-25 with Rye Cove in the lead. "We had a couple of steals off the press and Hannah (Wyrick) hit a cou- ple of threes and that's where the momentum picked up for us," said Eastside coach Barry Ruff. "I think that's when we started thinking we were going to play ball." Trey Phillips scored a .game high 20 points lead- ing the Blue Devils and Tyler Milgrim chipped in 1.5 points. All 11 Blue :Devils scored in the con- test. Ethan Hood led a trio of Eagles in double figures J'p with 13 points. Ethan ?Rhoton tallied 12 and Trey Pennington added 10 points for Rye Cove. ,, Castlewood got off to a quick start knocking down three 3 pointers in their first four field goals. Sykes followed with a two for Eastside and Wyrick backed her up with 8 straight, including a pair of three pointers, that gave Eastside a 37-29 lead. The lady Eagles bounced back with a 9-2 surge getting 6 points from Vivian Roller cutting the Lady Spartan's lead to 39-37. Wyrick card- ed the final 5 points of the quarter giving Eastside a 44-37 margin. "We talk about winning the third quarter in every game," said Ruff, "and we came out and did that." Vivian Roller dropped in a long three with 5:04 left in the game cutting the Eastside lead to just 2, 48- 46. A pair of jumpers by Jones gave the Lady Spartans a 52-47 lead with 2:26 to play. Haley Mullins sent in a huge triple giving Eastside a 6 point lead with 2 minutes left in the game. Big third lifts iiLady Spartans ~" Third quarter runs of 'I2-2, and 5-0 gave the /L dy Spartans just enough 7oom to get by Rye Cove's Lady Eagles 62-55 in their Cumberland Conference semifinal matchup. Hannah Wyrick led Lady Raiders knock out Castlewood J.I. Burton's 9-1 third quarter burst broke open a tight game sending them to a 57-49 senifmal win over the Lady Devils. Brooklyn Barnette post- ed 14 points for the Lady Raiders. Gracie Mullins totaled 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in the win. McKinley Isaacs turned in 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 blocks in her final game for the Lady Devils and Sydney Strange chipped in 12 points. The Lady Raiders trailed 7-6 with 3:50 left in the In'st, but 5 Castlewood turnovers gave Burton 6 points in an 8-0 run and a 14-7 lead. Strange stopped the run with a three and an Isaacs basket made the score 17-12 Lady Raiders. Castlewood and the Lady Raiders matched score for score through most of ther second quarter. The'n, with 2:26 left in the half Strange canned a three with an assist by Sam Couch. Lauren Couch's jumper off a block by Isaacs tied the score at 31. A late free throw by Gracie Muliins gave Burton a 32-31 half- time lead. "We switched defenses at halftime and went back to a man to man," said Burton coach Jared Coffey. "We were in a zone in the first half and Castlewood did a good job of finding Strange. When they needed a bucket to match ours she hit it. I told our kids at half- time we're matching them score for score but we're not getting stops. We went back to playing man to man. I can hold them accountable if they have a man. Either you boxed out or you didn't, either you helped or you didn't. I thought we did a good job man to man." Barnette keyed the 9-1 third quarter run with a defensive rebound, sprint- ing to the offensive end in time to receive a pass from Gracie Mullins and nail a three pointer. Kacie Culbertson bagged 4 points in the run, and Gracie Mullins chipped in a two giving the Lady Raiders a 41-32 lead with 3:47 left. Isaacs gave Castlewood their first field goal of the half scoring a layup with 1:19 remaining. Shaakira Home added a jumper pulling the Lady Devils within 8 points 45-37 going to the fourth quarter. Castlewood got a jumper from Home and two free throws from Cassidy Fleming to pull within 4 points early in the final frame. The Lady Raiders responded with two each from Kemia Beaty, Culbertson, and Rachel Mullins to go ahead by 10, 41-31. Castlewood outscored the Lady Raiders 8-6 over the final 4:33 of the game getting threes from Sam Couch and Isaacs. Burton leading a quartet of Raiders in double figuers. Johnson scored 16 points shooting 47% from the field, pulled down 7 rebounds; and totaled 4 steals in 29 minutes of play. Nelson Tate tallied 13 points with 8 rebounds, Nick Collins chipped in 10 points with 14 rebounds, and Tra Adams also added 10 points. Kyle Kennedy paced Castlewood with 15 points and J.J. Statzer added 7 points along with 5 rebounds. Kennedy's jumper tied the score at 9 all late in the first period. The Raiders answered with 9 points from Johnson and Caleb Williams in a 9-3 run to end the frame with an 18- 12 lead. Williams scored three point play opening the second quarter. The Raiders posted a 12-2 run forcing three Blue Devils turnovers to gain a 30-14 lead. Statzer interrupted the Raiders onslaught with a triple: Burton tacked on 8 more before the half ended with the Raiders in control 38-17.
